Advances In Conceptualizing Disease Progression In Alzheimer's Disease

A hallmark of this year's ICAD meeting was the wealth of newfangled clinical trials information in Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Years of basic and presymptomatic research have paved the road for development of new medications and biologics. Results from many unexampled clinical trials were provided, ranging from promising Phase I and II trials to some disappointing Phase II and III results.

Hundreds of new agents for the treatment of dementias ar now in or approaching clinical trials. It is essential that new CNS-drug development in general, and clinical trials specifically, keep pace with the explosive growth in translational opportunities in AD and other CNS disorders. Emergence of novel treatments aimed at disease-progression requires improvements in methodological analysis, particularly in definitions of clinical outcomes, so that health-authorities, patients, physicians, and payers are satisfied.

George Grossberg states: "At the recently over ICAD in Chicago, we witnessed negative results from several large Phase 3 trials of compounds which were touted as potentially having disease-modifying effects for treating AD. Could problems such as those exemplified by these studies get been avoided with better clinical tribulation designs? The ISCTM meetingAdvances in the Conceptualization of Disease Progression in Alzheimer's Disease-An Interdisciplinary Conference, will prove an immensely worthful follow up to ICAD for scientists, clinical trialists, pharmaceutical industry and regulative authorities world-wide who are trying to make our research endeavors more efficient and effective." Ravi Anand and George Grossberg will co-chair the fall ISCTM meeting to pursue this important give-and-take.

The International Society for CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology (ISCTM) will gather world-reknowned experts to talk about challenges identified at ICAD and by others, on October sixty-seven, 2008, in Toronto. Topics to be addressed let in: "Disease Progression in AD," "Optimal Trial-Designs For Disease Modification In AD," "Clinical and Biological Endpoints in Disease Progression/Modification," and "Statistical Issues In Disease-Modifying Therapies In AD Trials." A literate and warm songster whose vocal characters ar oft caught scarcely hanging on at the edges of American animateness, Grayson Capps is a bit like a New Orleans-version of Tom Waits, albeit more than of a roots rocker in real musical implementation. But playing wasn't the only thing Capps studied at Tulane. He likewise erudite to play guitar and coupled a band called the House Levellers, wHO specialized in what the stria called "lam folk." The grouping sign with Tipitina Records in 1990 when Capps was barely 21-years-old, and following a whirlwind and musically quite successful year, Capps left the dance band, choosing to remain and do his nursing home in New Orleans. He started a new dance band with John Lawrence called Stavin Chain and they signing with Thomas Ruf's Germany-based Ruf Records in 1998, cathartic a single album, simply called Stavin Chain, in 1999, earlier disbanding. Capps met Shainee Gabel, a youth music director world Health Organization was filming a documental called Anthem, and she concluded up victimisation several of his songs in the finished celluloid. Capps had told Gabel about an unpublished novel his beginner, Everett Capps, had written and once Gabel show it, she knew she had to plastic pic it. She wrote a screenplay and the end termination was the 2004 film A Love Song for Bobby Long, which featured Capps in a piece part and as well used quaternity of his songs as ingredient of the soundtrack. The regionally released Grayson Capps album appeared in 2005 on Hyena Records followed by a solo debut proper, If You Knew My Mind, by and by that same class. During this time Capps continued to make his base in New Orleans just the Katrina catastrophe at summer's fill up in 2005 forced him to get out the city, at least temporarily.
